Role Partnership Negotiation
Challenge Merck Frost in Canada, Merck Research Labs in the U.S. and GE Healthcare in the U.S. all wanted to develop new imaging modality for lung disease. However, none of these organizations was willing to invest in the technology on their own.
Result Dr. Mark Poznansky was able to create a consortium consisting of these companies and the Robarts Research Institute in London Ontario. In this consortium, Merck provided funding for technology development and clinical studies, GE supplied the machines and Robarts was responsible for the scientists and patients. The group was able to receive funding of $20 million over four years, resulting in many important research findings, publications and the potential to alter the course of lung disease.
