Role Change Management and Mediation
Challenge The Faculty of Medicine at The University of Alberta was structured as a traditional, department-based medical research enterprise. Peter Lougheed, the Premier of Alberta at the time, challenged the university - along with the University of Calgary - to become a top tier modern medical facility that was competitive with other research institutions in North America. Dr. Mark Poznansky was called in to change the way the University of Alberta performed research.
Result Despite some resistance, Dr. Mark Poznansky was able to convince scientists from the various departments within the Faculty of Medicine that it was in their best interests to combine their efforts to tackle the fundamental problems in health and disease. This resulted in a dramatic increase in national and international funding for research at the University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine. Plus, this led to the recruitment of dozens of new scientists to Edmonton from around the world.
